DIY Bias Tape Shoe Laces

What You'll Need

• 1/2" double-fold bias tape (amount depends on the length of your existing shoe laces)

• Sewing machine

• Coordinating thread

• Shoe lace aglets (the metal pieces that go on the ends)

• Pliers or a hand crimping tool

Step 1: Measure and Cut

Remove your current shoe laces and measure their length. Cut your bias tape to match.

Step 2: Sew the Bias Tape

Using coordinating thread, sew a 1/8" seam along the open edge of the bias tape. This creates a sturdy lace that's ready for everyday wear.

Step 3: Attach the Aglets

Roll one end of the bias tape as tightly as possible and slide it into an aglet.

Using pliers or a crimping tool, gently press the aglet closed. After a little trial and error, I found the best results came from starting at the tip and working my way down with small presses. Rotate the aglet slightly between presses to help it stay round rather than flattening on one side.

Continue until both sides of the aglet are securely closed and no fabric is visible through the gaps. Repeat on the remaining end.

Step 4: Lace Up and Enjoy

Thread your new laces through your shoes, and you're done!
