Bias Tape Quilt Roundup

Every time I use the work “roundup” I feel like I should be wearing a cowboy hat.  Ya’ll ready for this?

Bias tape has SO MANY uses – garments, hair bows, bags, drawstrings, just to hit a few.  But there’s also this whole world of quilters who create beautiful bias tape applique quilts – have you seen them?  Since the bias tape has ease to it, they are able to curve and stretch it in to any shape or size.

I recently went down the rabbit hole of bias tape quilts and wanted to highlight for you some of my favorites. Hopefully they will inspire you, too, to start a project that will have you reaching for your own bias tape!

Tied with a Ribbon– Tuscan Trellis Quilt(Sneak Peek!)

This quilt hasn’t even released yet so you're getting an exclusive sneak peek at it!  The Tuscan Trellis Quilt byTied with a Ribbon uses applique shapes and bias tape to create a design that, to me, feels like it’s moving!  It’s a colorful vibrant garden I wish I could sit and drink tea in and enjoy a good book.

The best part? I’ve partnered with Jemima to offer acustom bias tape bundle so you don’t even have to make the bias tape yourself!  The Tuscan Trellis Pattern releases October 25 and you can sign upherefor Jemima’s newsletter to be the first to know when it’s available!.

Tied with a Ribbon --Yule Tied Tree Skirt

This pattern, also by Tied with a Ribbon, is so charming and would look so sweet under any tree!  While it doesn’t use bias tape in the top design, it does require bias binding for the edges to give you a smooth curve.  Start this one now and you’ll have plenty of time to finish it before the tree goes up!

Patti Coppock Bucklin– Bob Socks

I don’t know about you, but my kids bring me home their drawings from school just about every day.  While I'm a terrible mom and usually throw them away, Patti had the genius idea to turn her grandson’s drawings in to quilts!  I’m going to take a minute and feel the weight of my mom guilt while you enjoy this photo of Bob SocksBias tape was used to recreate her grandson’s art, resulting in a quilt full of charm and personality.

Latifah Saafir – Modern Double Wedding Ring

If traditional double wedding ring quilts don’t appeal to you (usually they’re not my thing), LatifaSaafir’s modern take might just change yourmind! She uses thebiastape tocreate her own take on the double wedding ring design with a fresh, contemporary look.   Can’t you picture this hanging as an art piece?

Sarah Wilson – Air Show Quilt

Here’s one for the newbie to bias tape applique!  The Air Shown pattern, also by Latifah Saafir, is a great entry way in to bias tape applique.  And also great for showcasing large scale prints! I love the fabrics and colors that Sarah chose in her quilt.  As a military brat, I have fond memories of going to air shows and this quilt reminds me of those hot days spent on the flight line, watching the planes. This beginner project is sure to inspire!
