Quilts You'll Fall For: My Favorite Patterns for Autumn Sewing

I know many of you have been deep into fall sewing ever since the pumpkin spice latte hit the menu, buttechnically fall just started this week. If you’re like me, and you're in a warmer spot like North Carolina, you’re probably still sweating it out despite the calendar change!

To celebrate the start of the season, I wanted to share a few of my favorite quilts for fall. Swapping out quilts is one of my favorite ways to bring the season into my home—it’s simple but makes a big difference. Are you a seasonal quilter? Have you already started sewing for fall? If not, I hope these patterns spark some inspiration for your next project!

1. Ghost Quilt Pattern – Then Came June

Halloween wouldn’t feel complete without a good spooky quilt, and the Ghost Quilt Patternis a fall classic. I’ve seen this one in all kinds of color combos, but my favorite has to be Peony Pedal Quilts’ version. She uses a dark gray background paired with plaid flannel on the back, which gives it the perfect mix of spooky and snuggly. You can’t go wrong with this one for the Halloween season!

2, Cat in a Pumpkin – Burlap Blossoms Patterns

As a true cat lover (I used to have an all-black cat), I couldn’t resist this pattern! The “Cat in a Pumpkin” block is so cute, and it comes in a bunch of different sizes. You can easily turn it into a full quilt, a pillow, or even a tote bag. How fun would it be to trick-or-treat with this bag? Be sure to check out Burlap Blossoms’ shop for more adorable quilt block patterns!

2, Siracusa – QuiltD Studio

When I think of fall, plaid always comes to mind. There are tons of plaid quilt patterns out there, but I love the timeless look of the Siracusa pattern. It’s a great choice for fall, and you can adapt it to any color palette to match your home decor. Plus, it’s one of those quilts that will look good year-round!

4. Mini Harvest Days (FPP) – Liza Taylor Handmade

If you love Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), you’ll want to check out Liza Taylor’s cute "Mini Harvest Days" pattern. These little quilty pumpkins are beginner-friendly and come in four different sizes, so you can choose whichever suits your project best. And by the way, she just released her first FPP book, which is full of more great patterns!

5. Spellbound Witch Hat – Polkadot Chair

Okay, technically this isn’t a quilt, but itis quilted! The Spellbound Witch Hatis a sweet and spooky project perfect for Halloween. Whether you’re handing out candy or just getting into the spirit of the season, this quilted hat will make you the best-dressed candy-passer on the block.

Happy fall sewing, friends! I’d love to know—are you planning to make any of these, or do you have other favorite fall patterns? Let’s get inspired and create something cozy for the season!
